Dr. YC Joseph FischerHahm, DMD—or simply, “Dr. Joe,” as his patients call him—has always been interested in bridging the gap between patients’ understanding of oral health and that of overall health. In joining Restore TMJ & Sleep Therapy, he continues to take the most pride in helping patients recognize and overcome their challenges to good health, then enabling them to realize their most optimal quality of life.
After earning multiple undergraduate and graduate degrees across an array of fields, including nursing, management, business, and Spanish literature and linguistics from Southern Illinois University, and graduating with honors at the top of his class, Dr. Joe received his DMD at SIU’s School of Dental Medicine and completed his dental residency at the Loyola University Medical School. In the two decades since, he has completed more than 1000 hours of continuing education to expand his professional knowledge. He has also gained invaluable patient-care experience first as a critical care nurse, then as a dentist with the Veterans’ Administration Hospital System before focusing on integrative dental medicine and TMD.
Dr. Joe specializes in TMJ and Dental Sleep Medicine treatment, with more than 15 years of experience treating TMJ and sleep disorders. He is a diplomate of both the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine (ABDSM) and the American Sleep and Breathing Academy (ASBA), and his expertise is routinely sought-after. He has lectured to various medical and dental communities on topics such as integrative dental medicine, LASER dentistry, bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaw, and craniofacial airway health, especially sleep posture and head/neck postures during sleep.
Dr. Joe believes strongly in an integrative dental-medical approach to care. Underpinned by a foundation of over 25 years of knowledge and experience gained in his earlier careers in nursing and general dentistry, Dr. Joe has become a trusted expert in TMJ pathologies, craniofacial pain, and dental sleep medicine, and was awarded Doctor of the Year through the Captain James A. Lowell Federal Healthcare Center. He is well-versed and comfortable in various schools of thought and concepts regarding dental sleep medicine and TMJ/TMD treatment, and he strives to provide patients with the most current evidence-based techniques and therapy methods when creating customized care plans.
When he is not serving his patients or attending continuing education events, Dr. Joe enjoys visiting local farmers’ and city flower markets in search of new ingredients for exciting recipes or stunning flora for the arrangements he creates for local churches.
