Your initial appointment will consist of a consultation explaining your diagnosis and
. Temporomandibular disorders and sleep issues are typically very complex and difficult to diagnose. Because of this, Dr. Phillips & one of our Certified TMJ Assistants will spend a significant amount of time discussing the history of your particular problem and performing a comprehensive examination.
One of Dr. Phillips' goals of the initial examination would be to listen carefully to you and try to understand the
complexities of your individual pain experience. Her initial examination time will be 90 minutes long. During this time she will be able to discuss the likely diagnosis and various treatment options that you may have. You will also be able to ask any questions and discuss any aspects of the problem.
Please assist us by providing the following information at the time of your consultation:
- Your referral slip and any X-rays if applicable
- A list of medications you are presently taking
- If you have medical or dental insurance, bring your card information
IMPORTANT: All patients under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian during the consultation visit.
Please alert the office if you have a medical condition that may be of concern (i.e. diabetes, high blood pressure, artificial heart valves and joints, rheumatic fever, etc.) or if you are on any medication (i.e. heart medications, aspirin, anticoagulant therapy, etc.); a list is helpful.
Imaging:
Included in your intitial examination is a Dental CT scan & study models. These will be evalauted and findings will be discussed with you during your examination.
